Bill McKibben’s article on the state of environmentalism is a hard hitting look at the movement today. . In hard economic times, it’s often difficult to pass “green” legislation because of the cost and the extra regulation that is needed. As much of a pain as it may seem, effectively written and implemented legislation can help move the green. The movement has somewhat slowed, but can make a comeback due to the ease of organization via social media. We can only wait and see.
Environmentalism doesn’t have to start at the government level. If you want to do your part without having to rely on legislation, the EPA offers a variety of tips on their website. These tips range from small changes in your everyday routine to possible purchase you can make to reduce your energy output (and save you some money in the long run).
